Euphrati Keeler has the rest of her sharp edges shaved off so she can be a vehicle for a wider religious movement but I think it's fine, and it provides a link to Garro’s motivations and decision-marking. These books loom large in the mythos and Eisenstein seemed to be an almost universally beloved entry in the series. In addition to this, Nathaniel Garro is definitely the most Mary Sue marine I've come across outside of Matt Ward's territory, and to be honest he was a bit dull. The death of Garro’s colleague as he clings to a Dreadnought is another moment that is not a major narrative point but places a personal emphasis on the disaster unfolding.

Having witnessed the terrible massacre of Imperial forces on Isstvan III, Death Guard Captain Garro seizes a ship and sets a course for Terra to warn the Emperor of Horus's treachery. Tarvitz tells Garro of the imminent Virus Bombing and after commanding the Eisenstein to fire on the traitors pursuing Tarvitz to the surface he moves to deal with Grulgor and his men.

Anyway, I would say that I had grown very fond of The Sons of Horus and The Emperor's Children, but without a doubt by the end of 'The Flight' I had become very much attached to The Death Guard also. I have enjoyed the series to now but I felt this was a fantastic demonstration of supreme writing for the genre that deserved a top review just for that. The author's focus and development on the changing hero is subtle, sensitive to basic human traits and all connected with substantial action. There was one scene with a bunch of warriors awaiting a battle and I had just thought to note down that rank seemed less important to this crew, when suddenly the book said it for me: "There were no barriers of rank or Legion here.

The Flight of the Eisenstein tells of a moment where one of the soldiers is faced with a moment of choice and a matter of conscience. An interesting feature that I picked up in this book, or at least took note of for the first time, was that corpses reanimated by the Warp apparently can maintain their memories. It is still a great read to follow and see what happened aboard the Eisenstein after the events of Isstvan III. I genuinely feel ashamed about ever talking about the opening trilogy as the phenomenal first founding of this saga. Having witnessed the terrible massacre on Isstvan III, Death Guard Captain Garro seizes a ship and sets a course for Terra to warn the Emperor of Horus’s treachery. Having witnessed the events on Istvaan III, Deathguard Captain Garro seizes a ship and heads to Terra to warn the Emperor of Horus' treachery. For Warhammer 40,000, he is best known for his four Blood Angels novels, the audio drama Heart of Rage, and his two Sisters of Battle novels.
